Digital Finance Excellence has published an article by Grzegorz Kubera about business process centralization and migration. One of the interviewed experts was Mariusz Szałaj, who shared some thoughts on why organizations decide to build Shared Service Centers, pointing main advantages of such a solution, like process standardization, increased compliance or financial savings. But before anyone can really benefit from SSC, there is a whole list of requirements which must be satisfied, e.g. audit of current processes and design of its future state, definition of the to-be operational and governance model, decision on the migration methodology and knowledge management etc. All the activities must be supported with a disciplined project management approach. Still there are some areas that can fail when building SSC, very often related simply to lack of proper expertise in the organization.
